Are Ferrets Good Pets for Kids?

Ferrets can be wonderful family companions, and they are more work than almost any first time family expects. They need hours of supervised play daily, fully ferret proofed rooms, a strict carnivore diet, and an exotics veterinarian. They also nip while playing, which very young children handle poorly.

The honest fit

Ferrets tend to suit families with older kids, an adult who genuinely wants the ferret, and a tolerance for chaos and hidden socks. They are a 5 to 9 year commitment of joyful mayhem, not a low effort starter pet.
